Tile Flooring
Many people think of ceramic tiles when they think of tile flooring, while others think of traditional linoleum or even decorative wood tiles.
Truly, the variety of tile flooring is quite robust. In terms of geometric design possibilities, the tessellation of square or other shaped tiles is a simple way to create patterns that are pleasing to the eye. By choosing a few different patterns of tiles, you can mix and match the tiles in patterns to create different overall patterns to a floor area. You can even recreate the look of a wood tile floor on any type of wood or wood laminate flooring by applying paint. I've seen wood flooring painted to look like wood tile flooring that looks really just about as good as the real deal. You can even draw on the wood with a pencil, as this is easily erased.
Using a straight edge, simply create a grid of evenly measured and spaced shapes such as squares, or for something more ambitious a circular repeating shape, such as a mandala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandala) shape. Once you have drawn your repeating pattern containers or grid, go back and fill in these spaces with your painted shapes. A single color used to paint on top of the wood with creates the effect of a two-tone wood tile flooring look. If the pattern you have in mind is quite curvy or complex, you should probably work with some transfer paper to recreate the same patterns in the appropriate containers or grid squares.
You can also purchase fine hardwood tile flooring pieces that are as uniform as possible, or crate an alternating pattern with two slightly different colored or textured wood tile pieces. A nice look is rows or checkerboard pattern where the alternating colors are very similar to each other in color, but contrasting in brightness or texture. Just use a search engine or internet directory to browse through some of the flooring stores online and you'll soon have a good idea about the type of tile flooring that you like the best and will work the best in your particular situation.
